A mobile service

The Hair Whisperers does not operate a clinic. We treat lice in the client's own home and have done since 2006, arriving with the combs, the oil and everything else the visit needs.

We are on this stretch of coast regularly. Marina del Rey sits immediately north, Westchester is inland to the east, and Playa Vista is a few minutes away, so getting here is part of an ordinary day rather than a detour. Evening and weekend appointments are normal, because lice is usually discovered at exactly the moment a family has no spare time.

The whole household

Every head gets checked, including the adults who are sure they do not have it. That confidence is often misplaced, since an early adult case can go a fortnight without producing noticeable itching. Leaving one person unchecked is the standard route to doing all of this again next month.

Pricing is hourly, not per person. Checking one more family member takes minutes and costs accordingly. What actually determines how long a visit runs is the amount of hair involved and how established the infestation is.

How we treat

We section the hair and comb it through with a comb designed to strip eggs from the shaft, having first loosened them with an oil. There is no pesticide shampoo in the process. Those products are what most families try first, and increasingly they fail, because the lice common in California no longer respond to them reliably.
