Westwood is where The Hair Whisperers is based. The business has been registered on Veteran Avenue since 2006, a few blocks off Wilshire and a short walk from the edge of campus, which makes this the shortest drive we make.

That matters more than it sounds. Lice is not an emergency, but it is the kind of problem people want dealt with today rather than next week, and proximity is usually what decides whether that is possible.

The neighborhood we know best

We cover Westwood Village, the Wilshire corridor towers, the residential streets running south toward Santa Monica Boulevard, and up into Holmby Hills. Century City sits east and Bel Air sits north, both of which are minutes away.

Families here often live in buildings with doormen and elevators rather than houses, and that is a routine visit for us. Let us know when you write whether there is a gate code, a visitor parking arrangement or a desk we should check in at, and we will work around it.

A lot of what we treat in Westwood is graduate student and faculty housing near campus, where a family might be in a one-year lease and not sure whether it's worth calling a service instead of trying a drugstore kit first. It is. The apartments here are often small, which means close quarters and faster spread between roommates' kids or siblings sharing a room, not fewer people to check. We're used to campus-adjacent buildings and can usually work around a front-desk sign-in without trouble.

How the treatment works

We work through the hair in sections with a lice comb designed to strip eggs from the shaft, using an oil that loosens them first. Where appropriate the treatment can include the LouseBuster, a device that uses heated air rather than pesticide shampoo. Nothing in the process relies on the drugstore products most families have already tried by the time they call us.
