Housing in Venice varies more than in most of the neighborhoods we cover. A bungalow off Rose Avenue, a walk street cottage near the canals, an apartment above a shop on Abbot Kinney and a rebuilt house in Oakwood are all normal here, and we have treated in every one of them.

None of it changes the work. We need somewhere with decent light and a place for someone to sit still for a while, and we bring the rest.

We are along this stretch of the coast constantly. Santa Monica is directly north, Marina del Rey is directly south, and Mar Vista is inland, so getting here is routine and appointments can usually be arranged quickly, including in the evening and at weekends.

We check everyone. That is the part households tend to get wrong on their own, and it is the reason cases come back weeks later. Lice moves between siblings fast, and adults often carry it for a while before anything itches.

Our pricing is hourly rather than per person, so an extra check costs a few minutes rather than another fee. Time is driven by how much hair there is and how long the infestation has been building, not by headcount.

The method

We comb the hair through in sections with a comb made to strip eggs from the shaft, after an oil has loosened them. That is the whole approach, and it works where the drugstore shampoos increasingly do not, because the lice now common in California have largely stopped responding to them.
